How Do I Use Variable Product in WooCommerce?

If you’re running a WooCommerce store, chances are you’re selling products that come in different variations. For example, a t-shirt might come in different sizes and colors.

A book might come in different editions. And a piece of jewelry might have different materials and sizes.

WooCommerce has a built-in product type called “Variable product” that lets you offer products with different variations. In this article, we’ll show you how to use variable products in WooCommerce.

1. Create a New Variable Product in WooCommerce

To get started, log into your WordPress dashboard and go to WooCommerce > Products. Then, click on the Add Product button to create a new product:

On the next screen, you’ll need to select the Product Data. For a variable product, you need to select the Variable product option from the dropdown menu

Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to add your product variations. For our example, we’ll be adding t-shirts that come in different sizes and colors.

2. Add Your Product Variations

On the next screen, you’ll see the “General” settings for your product. Here, you can add your product name, description, images, etc. Once you’re done with that, scroll down to the “Product Data” section and click on the “Variations” tab.

On this screen, you can start adding your product variations. First, select whether your variations have attributes (like size or color) or not.

If your variations don’t have attributes (for example, if they’re just different editions of the same book), then leave the “Variations have no attributes” option selected and click on the “Add Variation” button.

If your variations do have attributes (like size or color), then select the “Variations have attributes” option and choose your attributes from the dropdown menus. In our example, we’ll choose “Size” and “Color”.
Once you’ve done that, click on the “Add Variation” button.
On the next screen, you can add all of your variation details like price, stock status, image, etc. Once you’re done with that, click on the “Save Changes” button to save your changes.
Repeat this process for all of your variations. When you’re finished adding all of your variations, you should see something like this.

3. Set Up Your Attributes
Now that you’ve added all of your product variations, it’s time to set up your attributes.
In our example case above, we’re using Size and Color as our attributes. To set up an attribute, go to WooCommerce > Products > Attributes.
