How Do I Use Version Control in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 12:15 am

Version control is an important aspect of any software development project. Figma is a web-based design tool that allows designers to work collaboratively on projects.

Figma supports version control so that designers can track changes made to their designs and revert back to older versions if necessary. In this article, we’ll show you how to use version control in Figma.

Figma’s version control features are based on “snapshots”. A snapshot is a copy of your design at a specific point in time.

PRO TIP: When using version control in Figma, be aware that there is the potential for data loss. Make sure to back up your files before using this feature.

You can create snapshots manually or automatically. Figma will automatically create snapshots when you save your design, but you can also create snapshots manually by clicking the “Create Snapshot” button in the top-right corner of the Figma interface.

When you make changes to your design, Figma will keep track of those changes in the snapshot panel. The snapshot panel shows a list of all the snapshots that have been created for your design, as well as the changes that were made in each snapshot. You can use the snapshot panel to compare different versions of your design and see how your design has changed over time.

If you need to revert back to an older version of your design, you can use the “Revert to Snapshot” button in the snapshot panel. This will restore your design to the state it was in when that snapshot was taken.

Figma’s version control features are a great way to keep track of changes made to your designs. By using snapshots, you can easily compare different versions of your design and revert back to older versions if necessary.
