How Do I Use WooCommerce Discount Rules?

Last updated on January 17, 2023 @ 12:39 pm

Discounts are a great way to encourage customers to buy more from your WooCommerce store. They can also be used to reward loyal customers or to entice customers who have been inactive for a while. But how do you actually set up and use WooCommerce discount rules?

First, you need to decide what kind of discount you want to offer. There are four main types of discounts that you can offer in WooCommerce:

1. Percentage Discounts: These discounts are applied as a percentage of the product price. They can be applied to the entire order, or just to specific products.

2. Flat Rate Discounts: These discounts are applied as a fixed amount, regardless of the product price. Like percentage discounts, they can be applied to the entire order, or just to specific products.

3. Free Shipping: This discount allows customers to get free shipping on their orders. This can be applied to the entire order, or just to specific products.

4. Buy One Get One (BOGO): With this type of discount, customers get one product for free (or at a reduced price) when they purchase another product. This can be a great way to clear out old inventory or promote new products.

Once you’ve decided what type of discount you want to offer, it’s time to set up the actual discount rule in WooCommerce. To do this, go to WooCommerce > Settings > General > Discounts from the WordPress Dashboard. Then, click the Add Rule button.

This will bring up a form where you can enter the details of your discount rule. First, you’ll need to give your rule a name (for internal reference) and choose whether it should be enabled or disabled by default.

Next, you’ll need to select the customer groups that this discount should apply to and choose whether it should apply to everyone, specific roles, or individual users.

Then, you’ll need to select the products that this discount should apply to and choose whether it should apply to all products, specific products, product categories, or tags. You can also choose whether the discount should apply when a coupon is used or not used.

Finally, you’ll need to choose the actual discount amount and type (percentage or flat rate). You can also specify if there is a minimum or maximum spend required for the discount to be applied.

Once you’re done, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
