How Do I Verify DNS on Squarespace?

Last updated on December 21, 2022 @ 8:02 pm

When you’re setting up a new website, it’s important to verify your DNS (domain name system) configuration. This ensures that your domain is pointed at the Squarespace servers, and that visitors can find your site.

There are two ways to verify your DNS configuration:

1. Check the DNS records for your domain.
2. Use the Dig tool to query your domain’s DNS records.

To check your DNS records:

1. Go to Settings > Domains in your site manager.
2. Select the domain you want to check from the list.
3. Click the DNS Records tab.
4. Compare the records here with the ones at your domain registrar or DNS provider. They should be identical. If they’re not, make sure to update them so they match. 5. Once you’ve verified that the records are correct, click Save in the top-left corner of the page to save your changes.

To use the Dig tool:

1. Select the domain you want to check from the list and click Manage Domain next to it. Scroll down and click Verify under Verification & Security Options on the left side of the page.
2. Scroll down to the DNS Verification section and click on the Verify DNS button.
3. Squarespace will provide you with a list of DNS records that you need to add to your domain name’s DNS configuration.
4. Open a terminal or command prompt on your computer and type in “dig” followed by the DNS record that Squarespace provided. For example, if Squarespace provided you with an “A” record, you would type “dig A recordname.yourdomain.com”.
5. Press Enter to run the command. The Dig tool will query the DNS server and return the DNS record that you requested.
6. Check the output of the Dig tool to make sure that it matches the DNS record provided by Squarespace. If the output matches, it means that your DNS configuration is correct and your domain name is properly linked to your website.
7. Repeat this process for each DNS record that Squarespace provided. Make sure to check all of the records to ensure that your DNS configuration is correct.
8. Once you have verified all of the DNS records, return to the Verify DNS page on Squarespace and click the Verify DNS button again. Squarespace will check your DNS configuration to make sure that everything is set up correctly. If everything is correct, your DNS will be verified and your domain name will be linked to your Squarespace website.

Using the Dig tool is a useful way to check your DNS configuration and make sure that your domain name is properly linked to your Squarespace website. By following the steps outlined above, you can easily use the Dig tool to verify your DNS and start using your domain name to access your Squarespace website.
