How Do You Add a Stroke Layer in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 3:38 pm

There are a couple different ways that you can add a stroke layer in Photoshop. One way is to use the “Layer Styles” dialog box.

To access this, double-click on the layer that you want to add the stroke layer to. Then, click on the “Styles” tab and scroll down until you see the “Stroke” option. Click on it and then adjust the settings to your liking.

PRO TIP: Adding a stroke layer in Photoshop can be tricky and may result in an unwanted effect if not done correctly. Follow these steps carefully to avoid any issues:

1. Choose the layer you want to add a stroke to in the Layers panel.

2. Click on the “Layer Style” button at the bottom of the panel (it looks like a little black and white circle).

3. A Layer Style window will pop up – choose “Stroke” from the list of options on the left.

4. Make sure the “Fill Type” is set to “Color” and then click on the color you want your stroke to be in the color picker.

5. Use the slider to adjust the stroke’s thickness, or enter a pixel value directly into the “Size” field.

6. Click “OK” when you’re happy with your settings and you should see your new stroke appear around the edge of your layer!

Another way to add a stroke layer is to use the “Pen” tool. First, make sure that your foreground color is set to the color that you want your stroke to be. Then, select the “Pen” tool from the toolbar and draw a path around the edge of the object that you want to stroke.

Once you have drawn your path, go to the “Edit” menu and choose “Stroke.” A dialog box will appear; make sure that the “Width” is set to 1 px and that the “Location” is set to “Outside.” Then click “OK.” Your stroke will now be visible!
