How Do You Add Bleed and Crop Marks in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:56 pm

Adding bleed and crop marks in Photoshop is a pretty simple process, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you’ll need to make sure your document is set up correctly. Bleed and crop marks need to be added to documents that are being printed, so the first step is to go to File > New and make sure the ‘Print’ option is selected.

Once you’ve got your document set up, you’ll need to add your bleed. To do this, go to Image > Canvas Size. A new window will pop up and you’ll see two options for ‘Canvas extension color’.

Leave the top option as white and select the bottom option (the color you want your bleed to be). Then, simply enter in how much bleed you need. For most print projects, you’ll need 0.125 inches (3mm) of bleed on each side.

PRO TIP: Adding bleed and crop marks in Photoshop can be tricky and may result in unwanted results. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully and test your changes on a copy of your image before applying them to your original.

Next, you’ll need to add your crop marks. Crop marks are small lines that show where the document should be trimmed down to size.

To add them in Photoshop, go to File > Place and select your crop mark file. Make sure the ‘Template’ option is selected and click ‘Place’.

Your crop marks will now be visible on your document. All that’s left to do is save your file as a PDF (go to File > Save As and select PDF from the drop-down menu).

And that’s it! You’ve now successfully added bleed and crop marks in Photoshop.
