Gradients are one of the most popular and commonly used features in Illustrator. They can add a lot of depth and dimension to your artwork, and can be used to create a variety of effects.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create a gradient using the Gradient tool in Illustrator.

To start, open a new document in Illustrator and set the size to 800×600. Once you have your document open, select the Gradient tool from the Tools panel and click on the first gradient stop (the one at the bottom left of the gradient bar).

You’ll see that the gradient bar has changed to show the gradient colors in a slightly different order.

Adobe Illustrator has changed a great deal since this was written, and the method for creating gradients has changed as well. Be sure to consult more up-to-date sources before attempting to create a gradient in Illustrator.

Now, drag the gradient bar up and to the right until you reach the top of the document. Notice how the gradient colors have changed again, this time moving from red to yellow.

Now, release the gradient bar and your gradient should look like the image below.

You can now continue to add more gradient stops by clicking on the different colors in the gradient bar. Once you have added all the stops you want, release the gradient bar and your gradient should look like the image below.

Finally, you can add a finishing touch to your gradient by selecting the Gradient tool and clicking on the bottom right gradient stop. This will add a white border to the gradient, and you can now save your document.

So there you have it – how to create a gradient in Illustrator. Gradients can be a great way to add depth and dimension to your artwork, and can be used to create a variety of effects.

In this tutorial, we’ve shown you how to create a simple linear gradient, but you can also create circular, radial, and gradient blends. So have fun and experiment with gradients to create the effects that you desire.
