How Do You Crop a Vector in Figma?

Last updated on May 14, 2023 @ 8:55 am

There are a few steps so that you can crop a vector in Figma. The first step is to select the vector image you want to crop by clicking on it.

Next, create a new shape that you will use to crop the vector image. You can do this by selecting a shape tool from the top toolbar.

NOTE: This shape should be the size you want to crop out from the vector image.

From there, place the new shape over the vector image in the area you want to crop.

With both the vector image and the new shape selected, click on the “Boolean groups” drop-down arrow from the toolbar in the upper-middle part of the screen.

From the Boolean Operations menu, select “Subtract selection” to remove the overlapping area of the vector image. This should retain the area that falls outside of the new shape.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Figma, we recommend that you do not attempt to crop a vector in Figma. This can lead to unexpected results and may cause your design to look different than intended.

Once you have completed these steps, the vector image will be cropped following the size of the new shape you created.

NOTE: It’s important to note that Boolean operations in Figma are non-destructive, meaning that you can easily modify or undo them at any time. If you need to adjust the crop area or the shape of the new shape, simply select both objects and repeat the steps above.
