Glow filters are one of the most versatile and commonly used filters in Photoshop. They can be used to create a variety of effects, from subtle to dramatic. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to use the glow filter to diffuse light in Photoshop.

The first step is to create a new layer. To do this, go to the Layer menu and select New > Layer. A new layer will appear in your document.

Next, go to the Filter menu and select Render > Glow. A dialog box will appear.

In the dialog box, set the following options:

– Mode: Normal
– Opacity: 100%
– Radius: 5px
– Strength: 1
– Quality: High
– Preserve Transparency: Yes

Click OK to apply the filter. Your image should now look something like this:

Now, go to the Edit menu and select Undo. This will undo the last change you made, which was applying the glow filter.

Next, go to the Filter menu and select Blur > Gaussian Blur.

In the dialog box, set the Radius to 5px and click OK. Your image should now look something like this:

As you can see, by applying a Gaussian Blur with a radius of 5px, we were able to diffuse the light and create a more subtle effect.

PRO TIP: This article contains outdated information about Photoshop’s glow filter. The glow filter has been removed in Photoshop CC (2014).

Here’s a summary of what we did:

  • Created a new layer
  • Applied a Glow filter
  • Undid the last change
  • Applied a Gaussian Blur

And that’s how you diffuse light using the Glow filter in Photoshop!
