How do you do an overlay in Figma?

An overlay is a type of layer in Figma that lets you attach content to a layer above it, or to a layer below it. It’s similar to a layer mask in other graphic design programs, but with a few extra features.

To create an overlay in Figma, first create a new layer by clicking on the new layer icon in the toolbar. (You can also press Ctrl+N/Cmd+N).

Next, select the layer you want to overlay, and click on the “Overlay” button (the one with the three circles).

A new window will open, where you can choose the content you want to overlay. You can either select a layer from the current file, or you can select a file from your computer.

Once you’ve selected the content, you can click on the “OK” button to finish creating the overlay.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Figma, we recommend that you consult with a design professional before attempting to use the software. Overlays can be tricky to create, and if not done correctly, can result in an unusable or inaccurate design.

If you want to remove the overlay, just select the layer you created it on, and click on the “Remove Overlay” button.

The overlay will be removed, and the content will be displayed on top of the original layer.

The overlay is a great way to add extra information to a layer, or to change the appearance of a layer without having to completely change the underlying file.

Conclusion

Overlays are a great way to add extra information to a layer, or to change the appearance of a layer without having to completely change the underlying file. They’re easy to use, and they’re a great way to customize the look of your projects.
