How Do You Do Overlays in Photoshop?

In Photoshop, an overlay is a layer of color or texture added to an image to enhance its appearance. Overlays are commonly used to add interest to photographs, but they can also be used to create interesting effects on text and graphics.

To add an overlay in Photoshop, first open the image you want to edit. Then, click the “Layer” menu at the top of the screen and select “New Layer.” A new layer will appear in the “Layers” palette.

Next, select the color or texture you want to use for your overlay. You can do this by clicking the ” foreground color” icon in the toolbar and choosing a color from the palette, or by clicking the “Background” icon and choosing a texture from the list.

PRO TIP: Overlays are a great way to add interest to your photos, but be careful not to overdo it! Too many overlays can make your photos look busy and cluttered.

Once you’ve selected your color or texture, click the “Edit” menu and select “Fill.” In the “Fill” dialog box, choose “Use: Foreground Color” from the drop-down menu and click “OK.” Your selected color or texture will now fill the new layer.

To adjust the opacity of your overlay, go to the “Layers” palette and lower the opacity of your new layer until you’re happy with the effect. You can also change the blending mode of your layer to create different effects. For example, try changing your layer’s blending mode to “Multiply” or “Screen.”

When you’re finished adjusting your overlay, click the “File” menu and select “Save.” Your image with its new overlay will now be saved as a Photoshop document.
