How Do You Duplicate Multiple Items in Figma?

Last updated on November 27, 2022 @ 9:31 pm

When you’re working on a design project, there are often times when you need to duplicate multiple items. Whether you’re duplicating a layer or an entire frame, Figma makes it easy to do. Here’s how:

To duplicate a layer, simply select the layer in the Layers panel and press Command + D (Mac) / Ctrl + D (Windows).

To duplicate an entire frame, select the frame in the Layers panel and press Command + Shift + D (Mac) / Ctrl + Shift + D (Windows).

Note: You can also use the Duplicate command in the Edit menu.

PRO TIP: If you are planning on duplicating multiple items in Figma, be warned that this can lead to some unintended consequences. Specifically, if you have objects that are grouped together and you duplicate them, each group will be duplicated as well. This can quickly lead to a cluttered canvas and make it difficult to work with your design. Additionally, be careful when duplicating objects that have been aligned or positioned using the grid – duplicating them may cause them to lose their alignment.

When you duplicate a layer or frame, Figma will create an exact copy of it and place it directly on top of the original. If you need to move the duplicated item, simply click and drag it to the desired location.

Tip: You can quickly create multiple copies of a layer or frame by holding down the Option/Alt key while pressing Command + D/Ctrl + D. This will create a new copy of the item for each time you press the keys.
