How Do You Lighten Skin in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 3:42 pm

When it comes to lightening skin in Photoshop, there are a few different ways that you can go about it. You can use the Dodge Tool, the Burn Tool, or even just a simple Levels Adjustment.

The Dodge Tool is probably the most commonly used tool for lightening skin tone. To use the Dodge Tool, simply select it from the Tools palette and then adjust the brush size and hardness to taste. Once you have your brush settings dialed in, simply paint over the areas of the image that you want to lighten. Be sure to keep your brushstrokes nice and light, as you don’t want to end up with an unnatural looking result.

The Burn Tool works in a similar fashion to the Dodge Tool, except that it darkens areas of an image rather than lightening them.

If you’re looking for a more subtle way to lighten skin tones, then you may want to try a simple Levels Adjustment. To do this, go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and then move the middle slider to the right until you’re happy with the result.

Conclusion:

So those are three different ways that you can lighten skin tones in Photoshop. As always, experimentation is key. Try out each of these methods on a separate layer so that you can easily make adjustments if needed.
