Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:16 pm

Collages are a fantastic way to tell a story or show off a collection of images, and Photoshop is the perfect tool to create them. Here’s how to make a collage in Photoshop.

First, open Photoshop and create a new document. The size of your document will depend on the size and resolution of the images you’re using, but for this example we’ll use an 8×10 inch document at 300 ppi.

Next, open the images you want to use in your collage. For this example, we’ll use three photographs. Go to File > Place Embedded to bring up your first image.

A new window will open asking you to choose the image you want to place. Select your image and click Place. Your image will now appear in your document.

Repeat this process for your other two images. Once all of your images are in the document, you can begin arranging them into your collage.

PRO TIP: When making a collage on Photoshop, be sure to use the correct layer settings and file formats to avoid any errors. If you are not familiar with the software, it is recommended that you seek help from someone who is.

To move an image, simply click on it and drag it to the desired location. To resize an image, click on it with the Move Tool selected and then drag one of the corner handles. You can also use the Transform command by going to Edit > Transform > Scale or Edit > Transform > Warp.

Once you have all of your images arranged how you want them, it’s time to add some finishing touches.

If you want to add text to your collage, select the Type Tool from the Tools palette and click where you want the text to appear. A new text layer will be added to your document and you can begin typing.

To change the font or color of your text, go to Window > Character. A new window will open with all of your type options. Make any changes you want and then click OK.

You can also add shapes or other graphics to your collage using the Shape Tools or Brush Tool. To learn more about these tools, check out our tutorials on Photoshop Essentials.

When you’re finished adding all of your elements, go to File > Save As and save your document as a PSD file. Now you know how to create a collage in Photoshop!
