How do you make a Japanese wave pattern in Illustrator?

Making a Japanese wave pattern in Illustrator is relatively simple, and can be done with just a few basic tools and shapes. The first step is to create a basic shape that will serve as the waveform.

In this example, I’ve used a basic rectangle shape with a rounded corners, but you can also use any other shape that you wish.

Next, you’ll need to create a series of guide lines that will help you create the waveform. To do this, simply use the Lines tool to draw a series of straight lines across the top of the shape, spacing them evenly apart.

Now, it’s time to start creating the waveform itself. To do this, first draw a series of small circles using the Ellipse tool, and then connect the circles together using the connecting lines you drew in step 2.

PRO TIP: This pattern is created using the Mesh tool. To create a Japanese wave pattern:

1. Draw a rectangle with the Mesh tool.
2. Click on the top left corner of the rectangle to create a point.
3. Click on the top right corner of the rectangle to create a point.
4. With the Direct Selection tool, click and drag the top left point to the right to create a curve.
5. With the Direct Selection tool, click and drag the top right point to the left to create a curve.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 for the bottom of the rectangle.
7. To add color, select each point with the Direct Selection tool and change the color in the Swatches panel.

Finally, it’s time to add some color and texture to the waveform. To do this, first fill the entire shape with a solid color, and then use the various texture tools to add some texture to the surface of the waveform.

In this example, I’ve used the Blur tool to add a bit of texture to the surface of the waveform, and the Emboss tool to add a bit of texture to the edges of the circles.

Finally, it’s time to add the finishing touches to the waveform. To do this, use the Gradient tool to create a gradual transition from the solid color at the bottom of the waveform to the color of the circles in the middle, and then use the Eraser tool to remove any unwanted parts of the waveform.

And that’s all there is to it! As you can see, making a Japanese wave pattern in Illustrator is a relatively simple process that can be done in just a few simple steps. Thanks for reading!.
