Making a ripped paper effect in Illustrator is easy. First, create a new document with the desired dimensions. Next, use the Pathfinder tool to divide the document into four equal sections. Select the topmost section and then use the Free Transform tool to distort it so that it resembles a ripped piece of paper.
PRO TIP: This tutorial is for Adobe Illustrator CS5 or earlier. If you are using a newer version of the software, the steps may be different.
