Neon is one of the most popular design trends right now. You see it everywhere from website headers to social media posts. And it’s no wonder why! Neon is eye-catching, fun, and can really make your designs pop.
If you’re looking to add some neon flair to your own designs, Photoshop is the perfect tool. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create a glowing neon sign in Photoshop. We’ll be using some simple shapes, layer styles, and a bit of drawing with the Pen Tool to create our effect. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Create a New Photoshop Document
To start, open up Photoshop and create a new document. For this tutorial, I’m using an 8×10 inch canvas at 300 pixels/inch. You can use whatever size you like.
Step 2: Create Your Background
For the background, we’re going to keep things simple and just use a solid color. Choose whatever color you like for your background. I’m using black, but feel free to experiment.
Step 3: Draw Your Shape
Now it’s time to start drawing our neon sign. We’ll be using the Pen Tool (P) to draw our shape. If you need a refresher on how to use the Pen Tool, check out this tutorial.
Start by drawing a simple shape.
I’m going for a simple rectangle, but you can draw whatever shape you like. Just make sure that your shape has nice clean lines with no rough edges.
Step 4: Add Layer Styles
With our shape layer selected, go ahead and add some layer styles. We want our neon sign to have that bright glowing effect, so we’ll be using the Outer Glow and Inner Glow layer styles.
