When it comes to digital art, there are a few programs that stand out above the rest. One of those programs is Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop has been around for over two decades and is still one of the most popular photo editing and graphics programs available.

Part of what makes Photoshop so popular is its wide range of features and tools. One of those features is the ability to create special effects brushes. In this article, we’ll show you how to create special effects brushes in Photoshop.

To create a special effects brush in Photoshop, you’ll first need to open the program and create a new document. Once you have your document open, you’ll need to select the brush tool from the toolbar on the left-hand side of the screen.

With the brush tool selected, you can then choose from a variety of different brush tips that are available in Photoshop. To create a special effects brush, we recommend choosing one of the following brush tips:

  • Rounded Rectangle
  • Diamond
  • Star

Once you’ve chosen your brush tip, you can then adjust the size and hardness of the brush by clicking on the Brush Settings icon in the options bar at the top of the screen. To create a more pronounced effect, we recommend setting the hardness to 100%. You can also experiment with different brush sizes to see what works best for your project.

With your brush settings configured, you’re now ready to start painting! Simply click and drag your mouse across the canvas to start creating your design.

As you paint, you’ll notice that your design will start to take on a more defined shape thanks to the hard edges of your chosen brush tip. You can also add multiple colors to your design by selecting different colors from the Swatches palette before painting.

Once you’re happy with your design, you can then save it as a custom brush by clicking on the Brush Settings icon in the options bar and selecting Save Brush Preset. This will allow you to use your custom brush in future projects by simply selecting it from the Brushes palette.

PRO TIP: To create special effects brushes in Adobe Photoshop, select the brush tool and choose a brush tip (such as Rounded Rectangle, Diamond or Star). Adjust the size and hardness of the brush to 100% for a more pronounced effect. Experiment with different brush sizes and add multiple colors to your design. Save your design as a custom brush for future use by selecting Save Brush Preset from the Brush Settings icon.
