How Do You Remove Harsh Shadows From Face in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:24 am

As anyone who’s ever taken a photo knows, harsh shadows can really ruin a good picture. And while there are ways to avoid them when you’re taking the photo, sometimes they’re just unavoidable.

But that doesn’t mean you have to live with them! There are a few simple things you can do in Photoshop to get rid of those pesky shadows and make your photos look their best.

The first thing you’ll want to do is open up your photo in Photoshop. Once it’s open, create a new layer by clicking on the “Create a new layer” icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

PRO TIP: This tutorial is not for beginners. It assumes a basic understanding of Photoshop and requires access to the program. The tutorial also uses terms that may be unfamiliar to some users, such as “layers” and “masking.”

Then, use the Brush tool to paint over any areas that are shadowed. Make sure you’re using a soft-edged brush, and be careful not to paint over any areas that aren’t shadowed.

Once you’ve gone over all the areas that are shadowed, it’s time to adjust the levels. Go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and move the sliders around until you’re happy with the way the shadows look. You may need to play around with this a bit to get it just right, but once you do, your photo will look so much better!

So there you have it! Just a few simple steps in Photoshop and those pesky shadows will be gone for good!
