Pathfinder in Figma is a tool that allows you to quickly create complex shapes by combining and manipulating simple shapes. It’s a great way to create detailed illustrations, icons, and user interface elements. Here’s how to use Pathfinder in Figma:

To use Pathfinder, first select the objects you want to combine. Then click the Pathfinder button in the toolbar, and choose the desired operation from the menu that appears

There are four operations available in Pathfinder:

  • Merge: This operation combines the selected objects into one object. All the colors and styles of the original objects are preserved.
  • Unite: This operation combines the selected objects into one object. The colors and styles of the topmost object are preserved.
  • Intersect: This operation creates a new object that contains only the overlapping areas of the selected objects. The colors and styles of the topmost object are preserved.
  • Subtract: This operation creates a new object that contains only the areas of the selected objects that are not overlapping.

To use Pathfinder with keyboard shortcuts:

  • If you want to combine using any selection tool or combination thereof

  • Press & hold Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS), then click on the first object and drag to select additional objects while still holding Alt/Option. Alternatively, you can add objects to your selection one at a time by Shift + clicking them.

  • Once you have all your objects selected , click on one of them to make it active , then go up to Object > Pathfinder or press Shift + Ctrl + F9 (Windows) or Shift + Cmd + F9 (macOS).

A dialog box will appear with all of your options for combining shapes . Choose whichever options you like and click OK . Your selected shapes will now be combined into one shape according to your specifications!
