How Do You Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool in Photoshop?

The elliptical marquee tool is one of the selection tools in Photoshop. As the name suggests, it allows you to select an area in the shape of an ellipse.

To use the tool, click and drag your mouse around the area you want to select. The area outside of your selection will be masked off so you can see what you’re selecting more clearly.

There are a few things to keep in mind when using the elliptical marquee tool. First, the tool only works with raster images.

This means that you won’t be able to use it with vector images or text layers. Second, the tool is only available in Photoshop’s Standard and Full editions. If you’re using the Basic or Lite edition, you won’t be able to access it.

Finally, keep in mind that the elliptical marquee tool can be used for more than just selections. You can also use it to create ellipse-shaped gradients, type on a path, and more. Experiment with the tool to see what else you can do with it!

PRO TIP: The Elliptical Marquee Tool can be used to create elliptical or circular selections. When making a selection, the Elliptical Marquee Tool will create a fixed aspect ratio selection unless the Shift key is held down while making the selection.
