When you make a selection with any of the selection tools, Photoshop displays aMarching Ants animation around the edge of the selection to indicate that it is active. You can move an active selection by clicking inside the selection and dragging it to a new location. You also can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge an active selection one pixel at a time in any direction.
The Slice tool is used to divide your image into separate sections, which can be individually saved as web graphics. When you slice an image, you create one or more rectangular areas, called slices, that divide the image. Each slice can be exported separately as a web graphic.
To slice an image using the Slice tool
- With the Slice tool selected, drag across the areas of the image that you want to slice.
- Release the mouse button when you have finished drawing a slice. A green line appears, indicating the edges of the slice.
- To add more slices, click and drag with the Slice tool until you have created all the slices you need.
To delete a slice, drag the slice off of the image.
To move a slice, click on the slice and drag it to a new location. To move multiple slices at once, Shift-click to select multiple slices, then click and drag any one of them.
To resize a slice, click on one of its handles and drag in or out. To resize multiple slices at once, Shift-click to select multiple slices, then click and drag any one of their handles.
Photoshop’s Slice tool is very useful for creating web graphics because it allows you to quickly and easily divide an image into separate sections. With just a few clicks, you can create multiple slices that can each be exported as its own web graphic.
