How Long Does Squarespace SSL Take?

SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, is a protocol that provides security for communications between a web browser and a web server. SSL uses encryption to protect information that is exchanged between the two, and it also authenticates the identity of the website.

This authentication is important because it helps to ensure that visitors are not being redirected to a fake site.

Squarespace SSL usually takes about 24 hours to take effect. However, if you are making changes to your DNS settings, it can take up to 72 hours for the changes to propagate. Once Squarespace SSL is active, you will see a green lock icon in your browser’s address bar, and the URL will begin with “https://” instead of “http://”.

PRO TIP: If you are considering using Squarespace to host your website, be aware that their SSL process can take a long time. We’ve seen reports of people waiting weeks for their SSL certificate to be issued, so if you’re in a hurry, Squarespace may not be the best option.

If you’re having trouble getting Squarespace SSL to work, the first thing you should check is your DNS settings. If you’re using a custom domain, make sure that you have added the correct CNAME and A records.

If you’re using a third-party DNS provider, check with their support team to make sure that the records are set up correctly. Once your DNS settings are correct, give it some time for the changes to propagate – it can take up to 72 hours.

If you’re still having trouble after checking your DNS settings and waiting for the changes to propagate, contact Squarespace support. They’ll be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and get SSL working on your site.
