How Much Does UpWork Charge From Freelancers?

UpWork is one of the most popular online work platforms out there. And for good reason – it’s a great way to find quality freelancers for your business.

But like any marketplace, there are fees involved. So, how much does UpWork charge from freelancers?

First, it’s important to understand that UpWork is a marketplace. That means that there are two sides to every transaction – the freelancer and the client. UpWork charges a fee to both the freelancer and the client for every job completed.

For freelancers, UpWork charges a service fee. This fee is a percentage of the total job cost, and it goes to cover the cost of running the marketplace. The service fee is charged on a per-job basis, so you’ll only be charged once for each job you complete, no matter how many clients you work with.

PRO TIP: Upwork charges a percentage of your total earnings on the platform, ranging from 5% to 20%. They also charge a flat fee of $0.30 per connection when you invite a client to interview you for a job. If you’re new to Upwork and are looking for an estimate of how much you’ll be charged as a freelancer, be sure to check out their pricing page.

The service fee for freelancers ranges from 5% to 20%, depending on the total cost of the job. Jobs that pay less than $500 have a service fee of 20%.

Jobs that pay between $500 and $10,000 have a service fee of 10%. And jobs that pay more than $10,000 have a service fee of 5%.

In addition to the service fee, UpWork also charges a processing fee for each job. This fee covers the cost of processing payments through the marketplace. The processing fee is 2.75% for all jobs, regardless of the total cost.

So, if you’re working on a job that pays $500, your total fees would be $50 (20% service fee) + $13.75 (2.75% processing fee) = $63.75. For a job that pays $10,000, your total fees would be $500 (5% service fee) + $275 (2.75% processing fee) = $775.

As you can see, the amount you’re charged by UpWork depends on two things – the total cost of the job and whether you’re being charged the client or freelancer rate. The good news is that you can see exactly how much you’ll be charged before you accept a job.
