UpWork, formerly known as oDesk, is a global freelancing platform where businesses and independent professionals connect and collaborate remotely. As of March 2015, UpWork has 12 million registered freelancers and 4 million registered clients.

UpWork takes a percentage of the total amount invoiced for each project. The company charges a service fee that is a percentage of the total amount invoiced for each project.

For example, if a freelancer bills a client $1,000 for a project, UpWork will charge the client a service fee of $100. The service fee is calculated based on the total amount invoiced for the project, not the actual amount paid by the client.

The company also charges a processing fee for each transaction. The processing fee is 2.75% of the total amount invoiced for each project, with a minimum fee of $0.30 and a maximum fee of $10.00.

For example, if a freelancer bills a client $1,000 for a project, UpWork will charge the client a processing fee of $27.50. If the client pays by credit card, there will be an additional 2.9% + $0.30 charge levied by the credit card company.

So in total, if a freelancer bills a client $1,000 for a project, UpWork will take $130.80 in fees (service fee + processing fee + credit card fee).

How Much Does UpWork Take From Buyer?

UpWork takes 20% from the buyer as their service fee when connecting with freelancers through their site. They also take 2.75% + $0.30 as their processing fee from buyers when projects are completed and funds are exchanged between parties through UpWork’s site – making their total percentage taken from buyers 23.55%.

Upwork charges a 3% fee for every job completed through their platform. This fee is paid by the freelancer and is taken out of their earnings. In addition to this fee, Upwork also charges a 20% fee for hourly contracts. This fee is also paid by the freelancer and is taken out of their earnings.
