How much does UpWork take from freelancers?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 9:01 pm

UpWork is one of the most popular online platforms for freelancers, offering a wide range of services, such as project management, social media, and marketing.

Freelancers who use UpWork typically receive a commission on the fees they collect from clients. However, UpWork takes a significant chunk of that commission – around 50% on average.

PRO TIP: Upwork takes a 20% fee from freelancers for the first $500 that they bill their clients. This fee decreases to 10% for any subsequent earnings.

This means that, on average, freelancers are left with just half of the fees they collect from clients.

This leaves freelancers struggling to make a living from their work. UpWork has the potential to help freelancers by giving them a greater share of the fees they collect, but in practice, it takes too much from them.

It is time for UpWork to change this.
