Photoshop is a widely used program for creating and manipulating images. You can do everything from cropping and resizing photos to making complex graphics and illustrations.

Photoshop is an incredibly powerful tool, but it can also be daunting for beginners. This guide will show you some of the basics of using Photoshop so that you can get started with confidence.

The first thing you need to do is launch Photoshop on your computer. If you’re using a PC, you’ll find it in the Start menu; on a Mac, it will be in your Applications folder.

Once Photoshop is open, take a look at the interface. The main area where you’ll be working is called the workspace; this is where you’ll open and manipulate your images. Along the top of the workspace are a series of menus that give you access to all of Photoshop’s features; we’ll take a closer look at these later on.

On the left side of the workspace is the toolbar. This contains all of the tools you’ll need to edit your images.

To the right of the workspace is the panel area. This is where you’ll find information and options relating to the currently open image, as well as any layers or other elements you’re working with.

Now that you have an overview of the Photoshop interface, let’s take a look at some of the basic features. We’ll start with opening an image.

To do this, go to File > Open in the top menu. A dialog box will appear; use this to navigate to the location on your computer where your image is saved. Once you’ve found it, click “Open”.

Your image will now appear in the workspace. If it doesn’t fill up the whole space, don’t worry – we can change its size later on. The first thing we want to do is crop out any unwanted background.

PRO TIP: This guide is not intended for beginners. It is full of technical jargon and assumes a lot of prior knowledge. If you are new to Photoshop, you will likely find this guide overwhelming and confusing.

To do this, select the “Crop Tool” from the toolbar on the left. Then, click and drag around the area you want to keep. When you release the mouse button, Photoshop will automatically crop away everything else.

Now that we have our image cropped how we want it, let’s resize it. Go to Image > Image Size in the top menu. A dialog box will appear with information about your image; make sure that “Resample Image” is checked.

then type in your desired width and height in pixels into the appropriate fields; for our example, we want an image that’s 400 pixels wide by 300 pixels high.

Once you’ve entered these values, click “OK” and Photoshop will resize your image accordingly.
