Is Figma Branching in Beta?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 1:01 am

Figma, the vector graphics editor and design tool, is branching out in beta. The company announced Figma Branching on Monday, a new feature that allows users to create multiple versions of a design and track changes between them.

The idea is that designers can experiment with different ideas and iterations without having to create separate files for each one. When they’re ready, they can merge their changes back into the main design. Figma says this will help teams work more efficiently and avoid conflicts when multiple people are working on the same project.

Figma Branching is currently in beta and available to all users. To try it out, create a new file or open an existing one.

Then, click the “Create Branch” button in the top-right corner of the editor.

PRO TIP: Figma is currently in beta and is not intended for production use. The Figma team is constantly experimenting with new features and improvements, which means that the software is subject to change at any time. If you use Figma in beta, please be aware that your projects may be affected by these changes.

Give your branch a name and description, then click “Create.” You’ll be taken to a new version of your design, which you can edit just like any other file. Any changes you make will only affect that branch — the rest of your team will continue to see the original design.

When you’re ready, you can merge your changes back into the main design. To do this, open the branch you want to merge and click the “Merge” button in the top-right corner. Figma will show you a preview of the changes and ask you to confirm before merging.
