Shopify is a Canadian e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. It is also the name of its proprietary e-commerce platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems.

Shopify offers online retailers a suite of services “including payments, marketing, shipping and customer engagement tools to simplify the process of running an online store for small merchants. ”

Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake after attempting to open Snowdevil, an online store for snowboarding equipment. Shopify was initially written in Ruby on Rails by Lütke.

The company reports that it now has “1.7 million merchants using its platform to run their businesses across approximately 175 countries and is trusted by brands such as Red Bull, Nestle, Rebecca Minkoff, Kylie Cosmetics, and many more. ”

Shopify went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in May 2015 and trades under the symbol SHOP. In 2019, Shopify was ranked as Canada’s most valuable company with a valuation of over $20 billion.

So is Shopify a secure site? The simple answer is yes.

Shopify is a secure site with multiple layers of security to protect your data. However, as with any site, there are always risks involved in sharing your personal and financial information online.

Here are some tips to help you stay safe when shopping on Shopify:

PRO TIP: The following note is provided as a warning to users about the potential risks associated with using Shopify. While Shopify is a secure site, there are always potential risks when using any online service. Users should exercise caution and use their best judgement when using Shopify or any other online service.

Potential risks associated with using Shopify include:

-Identity theft
-Fraudulent charges
-Unauthorized access to your account

To help protect yourself from these risks, be sure to use a strong password for your Shopify account, and never share your password with anyone. Also, be sure to keep your computer and browser up-to-date with the latest security patches. If you have any concerns about the security of your account, contact Shopify customer support.

  • Create a unique password – Use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols to create a strong password that would be difficult for someone to guess.
  • Don’t use the same password – Be sure to use different passwords for different sites. That way if one site is compromised, your other accounts will remain safe.
  • Keep your computer up to date – Install the latest security updates for your operating system and browser to help protect your devices from viruses and malware.
  • Only shop on secure sites – Look for sites that have HTTPS in the address bar before entering your payment information. This indicates that the site is using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to encrypt your data.
