There is no fee for signing up for a basic UpWork membership. You only pay when you decide to work with a freelancer or agency and agree to pay them for their services.

If you’re a client looking to hire someone, you’ll pay a 2.75% processing fee on the total amount you’re paying to your freelancer or agency.

For example, if you hire a freelancer for a project that costs $1,000, you’ll pay $27.50 in processing fees. The freelancer or agency will receive $972.50.

If you’re a freelancer or agency and you receive payments from clients, UpWork will charge you a 3% processing fee on the total amount of the payment.

For example, if you invoice a client $1,000 for work, you’ll pay $30 in processing fees and will receive $970 in your account.
