As the largest search engine in the world, Google has a huge impact on the way we use the internet. And as one of the most popular website builders, Wix is also influenced by Google. But is Wix a Google company?
The short answer is no, Wix is not a Google company. However, there are some close ties between the two companies.Google has invested in Wix in the past, and Wix uses Google products and services on its platform.
Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.
Wix was founded in 2006, long before Google got involved. The Israel-based company provides a platform for users to create websites without needing to code or design them from scratch. Wix has always been a popular website builder, but it really took off after it launched its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, Wix ADI, in 2016.
Since then, Wix has been on a bit of an upswing.
The company went public in 2013 and today has a market cap of over $9 billion. Not too shabby for a website builder!
So where does Google come into play? Well, back in 2013, Google made an investment in Wix through its venture capital arm, Google Ventures. The amount of the investment was not disclosed, but it was part of a $127 million funding round for Wix. That puts Google’s stake at less than 10%, according to Crunchbase.
In addition to its investment, Google also offers some of its products and services on the Wix platform. This includes things like Google Analytics and Gmail. And since Wix sites are built on HTML5, they’re compatible with all sorts of devices and browsers, including those powered by Android (a Google operating system).
So while there are some close ties between Wix and Google, they are not the same company. However, given Google’s investment and involvement with Wix, it’s safe to say that the two companies are friendly towards each other.
