What Are Custom Fields in WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:18 pm

Custom fields in WooCommerce are a great way to add extra data to products, orders, and customers. They can be used to store product attributes, customer information, order details, and more. Custom fields can be created using the Custom Fields menu in the WooCommerce settings.

To create a custom field, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Custom Fields. Then, click the Add Custom Field button.

In the Add Custom Field window, you will need to specify a name and description for the custom field. You will also need to select a type for the custom field. The type will determine how the data is stored and displayed.

There are four types of custom fields: text, textarea, select, and checkbox.

PRO TIP: Custom fields in WooCommerce can be a powerful tool for customizing your products, but they can also be a source of errors and unexpected behavior if not used correctly. Be sure to thoroughly test any customizations you make to your products using custom fields before making them live on your site.

Text fields are single-line text inputs. Textareas are multi-line text inputs.

Select fields let you choose from a list of options. Checkboxes let you select multiple options.

Once you have selected a type for the custom field, you will need to specify some additional options. For text and textarea fields, you will need to specify a default value. For select and checkbox fields, you will need to specify the options that should be available.

Once you have created a custom field, it will be available for use in the products, orders, and customers sections of WooCommerce. To add data to a custom field, simply edit the relevant product, order, or customer record and enter the data in the Custom Fields section.
