What Are Shopify Nameservers?

Last updated on January 9, 2023 @ 7:35 am

Shopify nameservers are the DNS servers used by Shopify to route traffic for your store. By default, Shopify uses a shared nameserver, which means that your store shares a DNS server with other Shopify stores.

Updating Your Domain’s DNS Records

If you’re using a custom domain for your store, you can find the Shopify nameservers in the DNS records section of your shop’s admin. If you’re using a subdomain (e.g., shop.yourdomain.com), you’ll need to update the DNS records for the subdomain as well.Shopify Domain Settings

Resetting a single DNS record

Only the A record and CNAME record for your domain can be changed. They are reset to point to Shopify when you reset these records.

  1. Go to Settings > Domains in your Shopify admin.
  2. Select the domain that you want to edit.

  5. Click Confirm.

Resetting all DNS settings for your domain

You can restore the default configuration for your DNS settings. All of your records are deleted when your settings are reset, with the exception of the A and CNAME records, which are then changed to point to Shopify.

Keep in mind that the CNAME records for any associated subdomains are also removed when the DNS settings for a domain are reset. You can manually delete your DNS records if you still want to use your subdomains.

  1. Go to Settings > Domains in your Shopify admin.
  2. Select the domain that you want to edit.
  3. Hit Domain settings > Edit DNS settings.
  4. Click Reset DNS settings in the Advanced Settings section.
  5. Click Confirm.

Editing your DNS records can be a bit technical, so if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, we recommend reaching out to your domain registrar or a qualified IT professional for help.

PRO TIP: If you are unsure about what Shopify nameservers are, it is best to contact your Shopify administrator or support team for assistance. Incorrectly configuring Shopify nameservers can result in downtime for your store, so it is important to be sure you are using the correct ones.

In conclusion, Default Nameservers are a set of DNS servers that Shopify uses to resolve domain names. If you try to host a domain through Shopify, this might affect your website’s functionality and cause issues. Updating Your Domain’s DNS Records can be done by finding the Shopify nameservers in the DNS records section of admin and editing them. However, this process might be tedious and technical, so we recommend asking for help from professionals.
