As a client, you are charged a fee of 20% for the first $500 you spend on an UpWork freelancer. For example, if you hire a freelancer for a one-time project that costs $100, you would be charged $20.

If you hire a freelancer for a project that costs $600, you would be charged 20% of the first $500 ($100) plus 10% of the remaining $100 ($10), for a total of $110.

There are no UpWork fees for clients if you use an UpWork enterprise plan. Enterprise plans are available to businesses and teams who spend more than $8,000 per month on UpWork.

PRO TIP: Upwork fees for clients can be very expensive. Make sure to carefully review the fee schedule before hiring any freelancers through the platform.
