Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake, who were looking to build an online store for snowboarding equipment. Shopify was launched in 2006.
In 2010, Shopify launched its own App Store. In 2015 it acquired Boltmade, a web design and development agency. In 2016 it acquiredSelect Start Studios Inc., a video production company based in Los Angeles.
