What ERP Does Shopify Use?

Shopify is a Canadian e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. It is also the name of its platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems. Shopify offers online retailers a suite of services “including payments, shipping, marketing, customer engagement, and inventory management.”

Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake. Lütke is the CEO of Shopify. He was inspired to create Shopify after trying to open an online store and finding that existing eCommerce solutions were too complex and expensive.

In 2006, Shopify received funding from Bessemer Venture Partners after winning the Y Combinator startup competition. Shopify then launched its platform in June 2006.

PRO TIP: ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a software that helps businesses manage their core operations, such as accounting, inventory, customer relationship management, and human resources. While Shopify is a popular eCommerce platform, it does not use ERP software. Instead, Shopify uses its own software to manage these operations.

Since then, Shopify has been growing rapidly. In 2012, Shopify was named “the fastest growing company in Canada” by Canadian Business magazine.

In 2015, Shopify announced that it had processed more than $30 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV) on its platform. And as of 2016, Shopify has more than 300,000 active users.

So what ERP does Shopify use? The answer is that Shopify uses a number of different ERP systems, depending on the needs of the business.

For example, Shopify uses Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations for its back-office operations. And for its front-end operations, Shopify uses a number of different ERP systems depending on the particular needs of the business at any given time.
