What Fee Does UpWork Charge?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 10:23 pm

Upwork, like many other freelancer websites, charges a fee for every job that is completed through their site. The fee is a percentage of the total amount that the client pays for the job, and it ranges from 5% to 20%, depending on the size of the job and the client’s membership level.

For jobs that are less than $500, the fee is 5%. For jobs that are between $500 and $10,000, the fee is 10%.

For jobs that are between $10,000 and $100,000, the fee is 15%. And for jobs that are over $100,000, the fee is 20%.

PRO TIP: The article ‘What Fee Does Upwork Charge?’ is a potentially harmful website that could lead to users being charged unexpected fees. The site may also try to sell users services that they do not need. Users should be aware of these risks before visiting the site.

There is also a separate 2.75% processing fee for all payments made through UpWork. So if a client pays a freelancer $1,000 for a job, UpWork will charge them a $27.50 processing fee on top of the 5% job fee, for a total of 7.5% of the total job cost.

There are two membership levels on UpWork – Basic and Plus. Basic members pay no monthly membership fee, but they’re charged higher fees for completed jobs. Plus members pay a monthly membership fee of $10 (or £8 in the UK), but they get discounted fees on completed jobs.

For example, if a Plus member completes a job that’s worth $1,000, they’ll only be charged a 3% fee instead of the standard 5%. That means they’ll save $15 on fees for that one job. But if they complete 10 jobs worth $1,000 each over the course of a month, they’ll end up paying $100 in monthly membership fees plus 30% in job fees – so it’s not always cheaper to be a Plus member.

Plus members also get access to additional features like priority customer support and increased visibility in search results.
