What Fulfillment Status Is the Order in Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 2:43 am

The Fulfillment Status of an order in Shopify is the current status of where that order is in the fulfillment process. There are four possible fulfillment statuses for an order in Shopify: unfulfilled, partial, fulfilled, and sent.

Unfulfilled – This is the default status for any new order in Shopify. An order is unfulfilled when it is first created and has not yet gone through any of the fulfillment process.

Partial – An order is marked as partial when only some of the items in the order have been fulfilled. This can happen if you are fulfilling items in the order separately or if some of the items are out of stock.

Fulfilled – An order is fulfilled when all items in the order have been shipped to the customer. You can mark an order as fulfilled manually from the Order Details page or have Shopify automatically mark orders as fulfilled when you fulfill them using a shipping app.

Sent – An order is marked as sent when it has been shipped and the tracking information has been entered into Shopify. This can happen manually from the Order Details page or automatically through a shipping app.

Conclusion:

The Fulfillment Status of an order in Shopify indicates where that particular order is in terms of being processed and shipped. There are four possible statuses: unfulfilled, partial, fulfilled, and sent. Depending on which status an order is in will determine what actions need to be taken in order to complete processing and shipping.

PRO TIP: If an order is in the fulfillment status of “pending,” this means that the order has not yet been sent to the fulfillment provider. The order may be in this status for a number of reasons, such as if the order is being held for manual review or if the customer has not yet paid for the order. If an order is in the fulfillment status of “fulfilled,” this means that the order has been sent to the fulfillment provider and is currently being processed. The order may be in this status for a number of reasons, such as if the customer has already paid for the order or if the fulfillment provider is currently out of stock on the item.
