What Happens When I Transfer My Domain to Wix?

Last updated on January 6, 2023 @ 5:39 pm

When you transfer your domain to Wix, you become the owner of the domain and can manage it however you’d like. You can point your domain to a Wix site, use it with a third-party provider, or keep it parked.

If you have a domain with another provider, you can transfer it to Wix to simplify your life and keep all of your web properties in one place. Here’s what happens when you transfer your domain to Wix:

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

1. First, check if your domain is eligible for transfer. You can do this by going to Wix Domain Search and entering your domain name. If you see the message “Domain is not eligible for transfer”, this means that your domain cannot be transferred to Wix at this time.

2. If your domain is eligible for transfer, add it to your shopping cart by clicking “Get It”.

3. On the checkout page, enter your billing information and click “Complete Order”. Note: There is a $15 charge for transferring a .com, .net, .org, or .info domain to Wix.

4. Once you complete your order, you’ll receive an email from Wix with instructions on how to confirm the transfer.

5. Follow the instructions in the email to confirm the transfer.

6. That’s it!

Once the transfer is complete, you’ll be able to manage your domain in your Wix account.

PRO TIP: If you are considering transferring your domain to Wix, be aware that doing so may result in your website becoming unavailable. Additionally, your domain may become locked, making it impossible for you to transfer it to another host in the future.
