When you think of the word proposal, what comes to mind? Perhaps you think of a business proposal, or a marriage proposal.

In the world of online work, a proposal has a different meaning.

A proposal on UpWork is simply a job application. When you find a job that you’re interested in, you submit a proposal.

The client then has the opportunity to review your profile and decide if they’d like to award you the job.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that proposals in Upwork are not binding and may be changed or withdrawn at any time by either party. If you are unsure about the terms of a proposal, please consult with an Upwork representative or legal counsel prior to entering into an agreement.

Submitting a proposal is easy and only takes a few minutes. Simply click the “Submit a Proposal” button on the job listing page.

From there, you’ll be prompted to write a cover letter and attach your portfolio or samples of your work. Once you’ve submitted your proposal, the client will receive an email notification and will be able to review your application.
