What Is Capture Payment in Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 4:45 am

When you first set up Shopify, you choose whether to set up Shopify Payments or not. If you do choose to set up Shopify Payments, you’re asked to complete the required information and activate your account.

After your account is activated, you can start accepting payments.

One of the first things you’ll need to do is set up your payment gateway. A payment gateway is a service that allows you to accept credit card payments from customers.

Shopify has its own payment gateway, called Shopify Payments, which is powered by Stripe. You can also use other popular payment gateways, such as PayPal or Authorize.net.

Once you’ve chosen and set up your payment gateway, you’re ready to start taking orders! When a customer places an order on your store, Shopify will send the order information to the payment gateway you’ve chosen. The payment gateway will then process the payment and return the result to Shopify.

After the payment has been processed, Shopify will show you the result in the Orders section of your Shopify admin. If the payment was successful, you’ll see a green checkmark next to the order in the Paid column. If the payment was unsuccessful, you’ll see a red cross next to the order in the Paid column.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about using the Shopify capture payment feature, be aware that it is not available for all payment types. Additionally, this feature is not available for Shopify Payments users in certain countries.

What Is Capture Payment in Shopify

Capture Payment is a feature in Shopify that allows you to automatically capture payments for orders when they’re placed. This means that when a customer places an order on your store, their credit card will be charged immediately and they’ll receive their order confirmation right away.

Capture Payment is optional – if you don’t want to use it, you can choose to manually capture payments for orders instead. To do this, simply go to the Orders section of your Shopify admin and click on an order that’s been placed.

Then, click Capture Payment and enter the amount you want to charge. The customer’s credit card will be charged immediately and they’ll receive their order confirmation.

Whether you choose to use Capture Payment or not is up to you – it’s just a matter of preference!
