What Is Shipping Class in WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 7:47 pm

When you are shipping products from your WooCommerce store, you will need to choose a shipping class for each product. Shipping classes are used by WooCommerce to group similar products together so that they can be shipped together.

This makes it easier for you to manage your shipping and makes it cheaper for you to ship products in the same class together. There are three default shipping classes in WooCommerce:

Standard: This is the default shipping class and is used for most products. Products in this class are typically shipped via ground transportation and have a delivery time of 2-8 days.

Expedited: This shipping class is used for products that need to be shipped faster than standard products. Products in this class are typically shipped via air transportation and have a delivery time of 1-3 days.

Overnight: This shipping class is used for products that need to be delivered overnight. Products in this class are typically shipped via air transportation and have a delivery time of 1 day.

You can create additional shipping classes by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Classes. Here you will see a list of all the shipping classes that have been created. You can edit an existing shipping class or create a new one by clicking the Add Shipping Class button.

PRO TIP: When creating a WooCommerce product, you will be asked to select a shipping class. Shipping classes are used by certain shipping methods to group similar products together. For example, products that are fragile may be grouped together in a shipping class so that they can be shipped using a specific shipping method that is designed for fragile items.

If you are not sure which shipping class to choose for your product, you can contact the WooCommerce support team for help.
