What is the difference between AWS secrets manager and parameter store?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 5:42 pm

AWS Secrets Manager is a secure storage service for managing secrets, such as passwords, API keys, and certificates. Secrets Manager allows you to encrypt and protect secrets using multiple security mechanisms, including AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) and AES-256 encryption.

You can also use Secrets Manager to create and manage encrypted containers for secrets.

PRO TIP: – Secrets Manager and Parameter Store are both used to store secrets and parameters.
– Secrets Manager is a newer service and has more features than Parameter Store.
– Secrets Manager is more expensive than Parameter Store.

Secrets Manager is different from Parameter Store. Parameter Store is a storage service for managing parameters, such as the names and values of parameters in an API.

Parameter Store does not encrypt secrets.
