What Is the UpWork Processing Fee?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 10:21 am

There is a common misconception that UpWork charges a processing fee for every transaction. This is not true. UpWork only charges a processing fee for payments made through our site using a credit or debit card.

The fee is 2.75% of the total payment amount. For example, if you pay a freelancer $1,000 for work completed, your total fee would be $27.50. This fee helps us cover the costs associated with processing card payments, including fees charged by our payment processor and security costs to keep your information safe.

PRO TIP: Upwork charges a processing fee of 2.75% for all payments made through the site. This fee is in addition to any fees charged by your payment method. Processing fees are non-refundable.

We understand that some clients may prefer to avoid paying this fee by using an alternative payment method, such as PayPal or ACH bank transfer. To learn more about our other payment options, please visit our Help Center.
