What Is the Wix CNAME Record?

Last updated on January 3, 2023 @ 12:06 pm

If you’re using Wix as your website builder and domain registrar, you may be wondering what a CNAME record is and how to set one up. A CNAME, or Canonical Name record, is a type of DNS record that points a domain or subdomain to another domain name. This can be useful if you want to redirect traffic from one domain to another or if you want to set up multiple subdomains that point to the same website.

For example, you could set up a CNAME for www.example.com that points to example.com. Then, anyone who types www.com into their browser will be taken to example.

To set up a CNAME record with Wix, you’ll first need to log in to your account and go to the “Domains” tab. From there, click on the domain name that you want to edit and scroll down to the “DNS Settings” section. In the “CNAME Records” section, click on the “+Add” button and enter the following information:

PRO TIP: The Wix CNAME record is a DNS record that allows you to change the domain name of your website. This can be used to redirect your website to another domain name.
  • Name: Enter the subdomain that you want to point to another domain (e.g., www).
  • Points To: Enter the other domain name that you want to redirect traffic to (e., example.com).
  • TTL: Select how long the DNS record should remain cached by servers (we recommend keeping this at the default value of 1 hour).

Once you’ve entered all of the information, click on the “Save” button and your CNAME record will be created.
