What is Velo Dev Mode?

Velo Dev Mode is a tool that allows developers to create and test Velo applications locally, without having to deploy them to a Velo instance. It provides a Velo-specific development environment and can be used with any text editor or IDE.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Velo or Wix, Velo Dev Mode is a developer tool that allows you to make changes to your Wix site without publishing those changes live. This can be helpful if you want to test something out before making it public, or if you’re working on a site and don’t want everyone to see your changes until they’re ready. However, it’s important to remember that Velo Dev Mode is only for developers – if you’re not comfortable working with code, you should not be using this tool. Additionally, any changes you make in Velo Dev Mode will not be saved unless you explicitly export them – so if you make a mistake, you could lose all of your work. Use this tool at your own risk, and only if you know what you’re doing.

Velo Dev Mode can be used to create both Velo applications and Velo packages. When creating an application, developers will need to specify a “main” HTML file, which will be the entry point for the application.

This file can be located anywhere within the project directory structure.

To start Velo Dev Mode, developers simply need to navigate to the directory containing their project and run the following command:

vdm up

This will start a local development server and open the project in the browser. Any changes made to the project files will be automatically reflected in the browser.

Velo Dev Mode is a great tool for developers who want to create Velo applications without having to deploy them to a Velo instance.
