What to Do if Photoshop Keeps Crashing?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:29 pm

If you’re a Photoshop user, you know that the program can be temperamental at times. Sometimes it will run smoothly for hours on end, and other times it will crash repeatedly within minutes.

If you’re dealing with the latter situation, there are a few things you can do to try and fix the issue.

First, check to see if you’re using the most recent version of Photoshop. If you’re not, then update to the latest version and see if that fixes the issue.

If you are using the latest version, then try reverting to an older version and see if that helps. Sometimes newer versions of Photoshop are buggier than older ones.

Next, take a look at your computer’s specs. Photoshop is a resource-heavy program, so it needs a fairly powerful computer to run smoothly.

If your computer isn’t up to snuff, then that could be the reason why Photoshop keeps crashing on you. Upgrade your computer if possible, or try running Photoshop on a different computer to see if that makes a difference.

Finally, try resetting Photoshop’s preferences. This will return all of the program’s settings back to their defaults, which can sometimes fix strange behavior like repeated crashing. To reset Photoshop’s preferences, go to Edit > Preferences > General and click the “Reset Preferences on Quit” button.

If none of these solutions work, then unfortunately you may just have to deal with occasional crashes until Adobe releases a patch or update for the current version of Photoshop.

PRO TIP: If Photoshop keeps crashing, there are a few things you can do to try and fix the issue:

1. Restart your computer and try opening Photoshop again.

2. Update Photoshop to the latest version.

3. Try resetting the preferences in Photoshop.

4. If all else fails, you can try uninstalling and then reinstalling Photoshop.
