What Version of PHP Is Needed for WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 7:48 pm

As of WordPress 5.2, WooCommerce requires PHP version 7.0 or greater. This is due to the use of newer functions and syntax in the codebase. Updating your version of PHP to 7.0 or greater is highly recommended.

If you are unsure of which version of PHP you are running, you can check by installing the WooCommerce System Status plugin. This will give you a report of your server environment, including the version of PHP.

Once you have installed and activated the plugin, go to WooCommerce > System Status in your WordPress admin area. Scroll down to the Server Environment section and look for the PHP Version row:

PRO TIP: If you are running an older version of PHP, you may not be able to take advantage of all the features of WooCommerce. Additionally, running an outdated version of PHP can create security vulnerabilities. It is recommended that you update to a newer version of PHP before using WooCommerce.

If your version of PHP is below 7.0, you will see a notice letting you know that an update is required. For instructions on updating your version of PHP, please contact your hosting provider.

While most hosts will be able to update your version of PHP for you, some may not be able to or may charge for the service. In this case, you may need to switch hosts in order to ensure that your site can run WooCommerce properly.

Conclusion
– In order to run WooCommerce, PHP version 7.0 or greater is required due to the use of newer functions and syntax in the codebase.
– You can check which version of PHP you are running by installing the WooCommerce System Status plugin.
– If your current version is below 7.0, contact your hosting provider for instructions on updating your PHP version.
