Where Do I Put Scripts in Shopify?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 11:56 pm

Shopify is a platform for businesses of all sizes to create an online store. It offers users a customizable platform, an easy-to-use checkout process, and a wide range of features. One thing that Shopify does not offer out-of-the-box is the ability to add custom scripts.

For example, you might want to add a script that tracks user behavior on your site or that allows you to run A/B tests. Or maybe you have a custom app that you want to integrate with your Shopify store. Whatever the case may be, you’ll need to know how to add custom scripts to your Shopify store.

The good news is that adding custom scripts to Shopify is relatively easy. In this article, we’ll show you how to do it.

There are two ways to add custom scripts to your Shopify store: by using the Script Editor app or by editing your theme’s code.

Using the Script Editor app is the easiest way to add custom scripts to your Shopify store. The app will take care of all the code for you and it’s easy to install. Simply search for “Script Editor” in the Shopify App Store and install it on your store.

Once the app is installed, go to Apps > Script Editor and click “Add a new script”. Give your script a name and then copy and paste your code into the editor.

Once you’re done, click “Save”. Your script will now be live on your store.

If you’re comfortable editing code, then you can add custom scripts directly to your theme’s code. To do this, log in to your Shopify admin and go to Online Store > Themes. Find the theme you’re currently using and click “Edit code”.

In the Edit HTML/CSS page, look for the “Assets” folder. This is where all of the files for your theme are stored. Find the file called “theme.js” (or “theme.js.liquid” if you’re using a liquid theme) and click it to open it in the code editor.

At the bottom of the file, you’ll see a section labeled ““. This is where you’ll add your custom script tags.

Simply copy and paste your code into this section and click “Save”. Your changes will now be live on your store.
