Where Is the Refine Edge Tool in Photoshop?

The Refine Edge tool is located in the Select menu at the top of the Photoshop interface. It is the fourth tool from the left in the menu.

The shortcut to access the Refine Edge tool is Ctrl+Alt+R.

To use the Refine Edge tool, first make a selection around the edge of an object using one of the selection tools, such as the Lasso or Quick Selection tool. Once a selection has been made, click on the Refine Edge tool to open its options panel.

PRO TIP: The Refine Edge Tool in Photoshop is no longer available as of Photoshop CC 2015.5. Users can access the same functionality via the Select and Mask workspace.

In the options panel, there are several settings that can be adjusted to fine-tune the edge of a selection. The Smooth, Feather, and Contrast settings can be used to soften or sharpen the edge of a selection.

The Shift Edge setting can be used to expand or contract a selection. And the Decontaminate Colors setting can be used to remove any background colors that may have been included in the selection.
